Colby Schoen

Colby SchoenHi, my name is Colby Schoen, I am a 16 year old junior at Fairhope High School. When I was 3 years old, I was diagnosed with ALL. ALL, better known as acute lymphoblastic leukemia, is a form of cancer that has a drastic impact on the blood. It was not long after I was diagnosed that it was recommended by a family doctor that I be taken immediately to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. This would be the place where I spent the next 3 years of my life fighting what seemed to be a losing battle. I can still remember seeing the faces of my parents through all the time I spent in the hospital. I might not have been old enough to understand what the doctors were saying, but no matter what, my parents always looked upon me with a smile and assured me that everything was going to be ok. Every day of my life was met with a different type of struggle whether it be something small or possibly life threatening. Countless hours of treatment everyday and unfathomable passion by the doctors are mainly the reason why I survived, and am forever in debt to the wonderful doctors at St. Jude’s. There is no word, action, or price that can be paired with the commitment that the doctors at the hospital dedicated to my life in order to make sure I always had a fighting chance. Now that I live a cancer free life, I can enjoy all the finer things the world has to offer. I am an avid tennis player and enjoy the great social company from all of my friends, as well as a strong supportive family.
