Joining forces with Joy of Life

Joy of Life Mardi Gras Ball

Dear Sponsors,

This letter is in regards to an exciting opportunity that I am asking for you to consider.  As you know, our event has not taken place over the last year.  The reason for this, Sergio, my husband and I have made a move to Charlotte, NC area.  This is an exciting move for us, but it has been very time consuming for me, therefore I have been unable to plan the tournament.

What I would like you to consider is an event that is also a fundraiser for St. Jude Hospital in Memphis, TN.  This local event is the Joy of Life Mardi Gras Ball ( https://joyoflifegulfcoast.org/events/joy-of-life-mardi-gras-ball-2017/ ).   It takes place Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Ft. Whiting, Mobile, Alabama.  I am attaching a letter of basic information about the event.

If you would like to donate through KCCRF, we will make sure your donation goes to support this event and St. Jude.  The foundation will be buying tables for the event and if you would like to attend and sit with us, please let me know this is your intention.  Individual tickets for a seat at our table would be $100 each or 2 for $150 I will send your ticket and information to you directly.  Or you can buy a table for 10 @$700 I will make sure you have your own table and work directly with Joy of Life to make this happen if you prefer going through KCCRF.

If you can not attend but would like to continue your support through KCCRF, we greatly appreciate it.

Thank you for all your continued support in raising money for cancer research.  I continue to be amazed at the generosity in memory of Kerri.  My hope is to continue the tennis tournament in the area, as I am currently working on making that happen.  Until then, if you would consider continuing your donations, this is a great way to make that happen.

Please contact me if you have any questions.  If you are sending through us, make sure all checks are made out to KCCRF

Please send donations to the address below, or contact me for further information.

Sincerely,

Lora Castello

2011 – Letter to Possible Sponsors

Please join us in continuing to keep Kerri’s dream alive by joining us with your support.

Thank you for your interest in the Kerri Castello Cancer Research Foundation (KCCRF).  This foundation was started in memory of my daughter, Kerri.  Kerri was an active sixteen year old teenager who enjoyed playing basketball and tennis at her school, UMS-Wright Preparatory School in Mobile, Alabama.  Her arm began hurting during the basketball season and a trip to the local orthopedic doctor confirmed my worst nightmare, she had cancer and needed to be treated by a pediatric oncologist and surgeon.  We soon arrived at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. When we arrived, Kerri called the hospital her “beacon of hope”.

Kerri’s hope of survival faded; she died on April 30, 2002.  Her hope of a cure did not.  She left our family with a dream of finding a cure for cancer so that others would not have to suffer the way she and our family had.

After five years of healing and trying to make sense of our loss of Kerri, our family decided we should begin a tennis tournament in her name.  In the first year this tournament raised over $80,000, which was sent to St. Jude.  We soon decided we should set up a foundation in her memory and this is how the KCCRF began.  To date we have raised over $500,000 for cancer research.

After reviewing our goals of keeping Kerri’s dream alive, the foundation committee decided to add the Mitchell Cancer Institute (MCI), in Mobile, AL as a beneficiary of the KCCRF. The MCI opened their doors in 2008 and is a part of the University of South Alabama School of Medicine.  Their patient care allows families to be closer to family while undergoing treatment.  This was another of Kerri’s dreams, to be closer to family and friends while enduring her painful treatments.  We look forward to many years of joining MCI as they continue to grow.  An interesting fact is that Kerri donated her body to science through the USA Medical School, so the research with this prestigious university continues in Kerri’s memory.

Please join us in continuing to keep Kerri’s dream alive by joining us with your support. Sponsorship information can be found on our website, but any amount is greatly appreciated.  If I can answer any questions, please feel free to contact me at 251-716-8973, or at [email protected]

Sincerely,

Lora Castello
